It is entirely up to you. I will usually chat with you beforehand and work out what would be best for your family. It depends on what your family is like and what you would like the photographs to look like. I can come to your home, or we can head out somewhere that you enjoy spending time, or I can suggest options. Or a mixture of the above!
I want the whole session to be fun for them, and it really doesn’t matter whether they ‘behave’ or not. My goal is to get them running around and laughing right off the bat. Let them explore, play, jump on the bed and be silly – embrace the chaos and the crazy WITH THEM and lets capture moments that you will look back on that will make you smile, laugh and cry! If they really aren’t happy at any point, then I’m always happy to take a break, or change what we are doing.
My family photography is very relaxed and natural, with nothing too posed. It is what is often described as "lifestyle family photography." I’ll help you create a scenario where you are all enjoying your time together. Perfectly posed and forced photos are not my style. Expect to have fun with one another! I'll be there to capture all the smiles and laughs, and all of those the little moments in between.
I don’t pose newborn babies. My newborn photography always takes place in your own home and is lifestyle based. This means that I will photograph your baby just as they are: in your arms, on your shoulder, snuggled up naturally. I can capture all the tiny details of your newborn like this, there is no need to do anything posed. The photos I take will reflect your whole family in your home together at this special time. You can read more about my newborn sessions here.
I do not offer prints in my packages, but I am happy to point you in the right direction for photo labs. Just reach out and ask!
A family photography session is for up to six family members. If you would like a session with your wider family, I offer different options for extended family sessions. Reach out for more information!
It’s no problem at all to reschedule the session if any of you are unwell. Just let me know as soon as you can.
It depends on the age of your children and where we are. But it’s generally a good idea to pack up a big bag with drinks, snacks, wipes, and spare clothes. Your child’s lovey or favorite stuffed animals/toys are also a great thing to bring (go with it… it is something you will want to remember later! It can also be fun to have some sort of activity to do, but we can chat this through ahead of the session.
If yours is an outdoor session, please use bug spray. We may go into fields and areas that have ticks and mosquitos.
I'm based out of Atlanta, GA! Traveling is a passion of mine and I end up traveling for many of the sessions that I photograph. Travel costs are included for any session within 1 hour of Atlanta, GA. Anywhere else in the continental U.S. or International is subject to travel fees.
No session is too far. Just inquire for more information.
My story-telling photography style tends to lean toward a documentary and candid approach, capturing moments as they truly are (kids being funny, the dog chasing you or licking your face). I’ll always try and include some relaxed group photos of you all together, but I do this is a very informal way. I don’t want fixed smiles and awkward poses – I’d much rather a comfortable, relaxed group with proper laughs.
I’ll always get in touch with you a few days before your session to finalize details. This is also a good time to check the forecast. But if it looks like there’s going to be inclement weather the day of your session, then I’m always happy to reschedule the session OR we can go play in the rain! What kid doesn't love dancing in the rain and playing in puddles? (just be sure to bring a change of clothes)
I probably get asked this question the most! I try to help families plan outfits based on location, but neutrals are almost always my recommendation. It’s always nice if your family can wear complimentary colors - but not matchy-matchy. Outfits play a much bigger role in the overall look of the photos than most people think. Pinterest can be a great tool, and I'm always here to help!
